Pittsburgh-Area Native Shares “I Played” Football Message with More Than 100 Million Americans

USA Football, the sport’s national governing body on youth and amateur levels, demonstrates how football impacts the lives of Americans through a public service announcement (PSA) featuring Pittsburgh-area native and Glen Mills, Pa., resident PEGGY EVANS.

The 30-second USA Football television message featuring Evans, titled “I Played,” will be seen by more than 100 million Americans this month during every NFL preseason game telecast nationally on CBS, ESPN, FOX, NBC and NFL Network. The message also will be shown on NFL stadium scoreboards throughout August. A radio version of “I Played” will air on the CBS/Westwood One Radio Network during national NFL preseason broadcasts.

Evans, a realty business owner, and five other professionals from varying career fields are part of USA Football’s “I Played” message. All six credit playing football in helping them learn the importance of teamwork and responsibility to develop their character and attain success in their respective careers.

Evans grew up as a Steelers fan in Holiday Park, Pa., where she played “pick-up” football as a youngster before her graduation from Plum High School. She went on to play intramural football at Juniata College (Huntingdon, Pa.) and was the country’s Division III triple-jump champion in 1985. Evans also played basketball and volleyball during her collegiate career. After receiving her college degree, Evans worked in accounting, sales, and marketing before taking the reins of her own realty business, which she has successfully run since 2006.

“As a business owner, you always need to lead people and motivate them to do what their job entails, and by playing football you learn that,” said Evans, a proud mother of two children who today lives in Glen Mills, Pa. “Football is all about heart and passion and competitiveness and having fun. I think everybody, both boys and girls, should give football a chance.”

In 2003, Evans caught wind of a women’s pro football team and immediately became interested. Not long after, she was the starting wide receiver for the Philadelphia Liberty Belles (now the Delaware Griffins) of the Independent Women’s Football League.

Invited to join Evans and share their football stories at usafootball.com are all who have experienced the sport in some way during their lives. “I Played” is part of independent non-profit USA Football’s “Play Football…it’s more than a game” campaign, which was launched in late April at the NFL Draft to illustrate how football unites and teaches players of all ages for success beyond the field.

The “I Played” television message was filmed in the greater Philadelphia area in late June and produced by NFL Films.
