ASK THE STEELERS – DENNIS DIXON – PART 2
Steelers.com
brings you the Ask the Steelers feature. Fans submitted the questions that were
asked. Please understand that we receive an incredible number of questions for
each player, with many of the questions being similar, and not all of the
questions can be answered. We selected as many as possible, and took your
questions to the current subject to get your answers.
From
Greg James in Oakland, California: Is it tough coming to a team that has an
established franchise quarterback?
Dennis Dixon: No, not at all. You have
to be willing to wait your turn and I am willing to do that. I have to be ready
at all times because you never know what will happen. I am just out there having
the best time I can.
From Chuck Beatty in
Bakersfield California: Do you see yourself as a quarterback for the Steelers,
or do you think you might make a multi-threat option?
Dennis
Dixon: I can see myself being a
great quarterback at this level. I told coach Tomlin if he wants to do something
I am willing to do it.
From Harry Sparks in Andover, Ohio: After
you injured your ACL, why did you play in the next game? What was it that drove
you to do that?
Dennis
Dixon:
You have
to look at the situation we were in. We were number two in the nation. We were
playing on Thursday night. Nobody else was playing on Thursday night. Everybody
was watching our game. What more could you want in a college football game. I
just felt like the time was great. My knee was stable. It had no swelling. I
felt good going into that game.
From Doug Powell in
Altoona, Pennsylvania: How tough was it for you mentally to suffer that injury
when you were a candidate for the Heisman Trophy and had a chance to win the
National Championship?
Dennis
Dixon:
It hurt
for a little bit but then my dad got to me and told me that nothing is worse
than losing your mom. I looked at it then as a little minor bump in the road.
This is life. Football is a game made of injuries and it’s how you overcome it
and react afterwards. I tried to react positively.
From Keith Mayberry
in Seattle, Washington: You have a website that states it’s to keep NFL teams
updated on your progress. What made you decide to do that and do you think it
was beneficial?
Dennis
Dixon:
I think
it was beneficial. I just wanted to show everybody if they couldn’t come out to
see me work out on my pro day I wanted then to keep tuned in on what I have been
doing on a regular basis. I think it was good.
From Carl Lang in
Toledo, Ohio: What did you do to come back from the ACL injury?
Dennis Dixon:
I did a
lot of squats. I worked on getting my hamstring back to where it is. It’s not
really there yet. It’s about 85 percent. The doctors are going to release me in
about a month, which is good. I am ahead of schedule. I just worked a lot in the
weight room and treatment overall.
From Dennis Dixon,
Sr. in San Leandro, California: How does it feel to be drafted by Pittsburgh Steelers with all the Hall of famers and the
super bowl trophies as well being a quarterback where Terry Bradshaw once starred?
Dennis
Dixon: It’s a dream come true. I am
going to a franchise that’s well on the mark. They always have winning seasons.
Whenever I get my chance I want to continue to do
that.
