Steelers
Chairman Dan Rooney on the Death of Buddy Dial
We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Buddy Dial. Buddy was a
tremendous player for us and ranks among the best receivers in Steelers history.
Because Buddy did not play on any championship teams during his NFL
career, he may not have received all of the publicity some that our more
modern-day players receive, but he was as good.
Buddy was a star during his era and a real deep threat who averaged more
than 20 yards per catch. He held
the Steelers record for career touchdown receptions (42) and most receiving
yards in a game (235) at the time of his retirement
Buddy was one of the great players to ever wear a Steelers uniform but he
was also a real special person who we will deeply miss. Our prayers go out to
Buddy and his entire family. His contributions to the team were an important
part of Steelers history.
