Casey Hampton played Santa Claus for a group of kids at the Hill House in
Pittsburgh’s Hill District neighborhood last week, making a huge delivery of
toys.
Hampton made a generous donation, allowing for the purchase of gifts
for 215 kids who were selected by the Hill House based on their need.
“I know
growing up I didn’t have a whole lot,” said Hampton, decked out in a Steelers
Santa hat. “A lot of times my little brothers and sisters would get stuff, but
my mom couldn’t afford to get all of us stuff. She would just get them stuff and
tell me she couldn’t afford to get me anything.
“I know what
how it feels not to have anything. I wanted to give back and let those less
fortunate get something that they wouldn’t be able to get and they would
want.”
Hampton was on hand at the Hill House to personally hand out the
toys to the kids, many of whom might not get any other gifts this holiday
season.
“Christmas is a fun
time for everybody,” said Hampton. “To see kids smiling and see them getting
something that they wouldn’t be able to get otherwise brings a lot of
joy.”
The Hill House is a
comprehensive community service provider and facilitator that meets the needs of
the Hill District residents and offers programs for early learning and child
development as well as other youth services, including educational programs.
