There is plenty to give thanks for this Thanksgiving for 200 families from the Mon Valley because of the efforts of offensive tackle Max Starks and some of his teammates.

Starks hosted the Max Starks & His Home Team Thanksgiving Food Drive and as a part of it those families were given all of the makings for Thanksgiving dinner, including a turkey, instant mashed potatoes, vegetables and more.

Starks and about 10 of his teammates were on hand at The Waterfront to distribute the food to families that were pre-selected by the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank.

“The name Thanksgiving alone speaks for itself, giving thanks and giving back,” said Starks. “It’s a great opportunity to be able to help those families have a wonderful, memorable holiday. It’s always good when you can give back for your heart and soul.”

The players had the chance to talk to those receiving the food, making it a more personal experience. Starks mom Eleanor, who helped organize the event, made sure that there was plenty of interaction.

“We are so grateful to be a part of the Steelers family,” said Eleanor Starks. “It’s an opportunity for us to give back to the community. Thanksgiving is a blessed holiday and we want to make sure that everyone has a nice Thanksgiving and there is food on the table for everybody.”

“You have an opportunity to meet people one-on-one and give them a hug. It’s an opportunity to put a face to a name and say Happy Thanksgiving.”

A food drive was also held and anyone donating had the chance to win prizes, including two club seats to Monday night’s game against the Dolphins.
