Week 1: Andy Pacak,
Monessen High
School
In the 100th Anniversary
of the Monessen – Charleroi rivalry, the Monessen Greyhounds pulled out a
victory with two fourth-quarter touchdowns to secure a 28-17 victory. Monessen, which plays in Class A,
trailed Charleroi, a Class AA team, 17-14 early in
the third quarter. Monessen edged a
bit closer to even up the all time series, 47-43-9. The Greyhounds are currently 2-0.
Week 2-Ed
Dalton,
Trinity High
School
Following
an opening week loss, Coach Dalton was able to refocus his Hillers for a
double-overtime victory over No. 4 ranked Blackhawk, 34-33. Running
back Mike Yancich ran for over 200 yards in the victory, and also scored the
game winning touchdown in the second overtime, with the extra point as the
deciding factor.
Week 3: Todd Massack, Riverview High School
Hosting
only the second night game in almost 40 years, Riverview pulled off one of the
biggest upsets of the young 2007 season, defeating No. 2-ranked Rochester,
24-23. In the first overtime, both teams converted field goal attempts. In the second overtime, after scoring on
a 5-yard run, the Riverview defense held strong for a goal-line stand to secure
the victory, which was Riverview's first of the season and the first for new
head coach Todd Massack.
Week 4: Dave Havern,
Shady Side Academy
Coach
Havern’s Indians continue the great play on defense with a second consecutive
shutout with the 43-0 victory over Kittanning. The defense recovered a fumble and
returned it 3-yards for the touchdown to start the scoring. They added a 21-point third quarter to
put the game away and have a running clock. The defense allowed just one first down
in the first half. The offense ran
the ball almost exclusively, passing only twice, both completed.
