So you want to be the Steelers Mascot.Here is a breakdown
of the selection process:
1.Written application forms are available for
downloading on this website or via mail by sending a request to Pittsburgh
Steelers, 100 Art Rooney Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA15212, Attention:Steelers Mascot Application.These forms along with the video submission must be received at the
Steelers mailbox no later than June 30,
2007 at 5:00 p.m.Pittsburgh time.Steelers reserves the right, in its discretion, to extend the deadline as
appropriate.
2.Selected applicants (semi-finalists) will be invited
to interview with the Steelers prior to the 2007 Season in person at Heinz
Field, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.All
travel expenses for the interview will be the semi-finalist's sole
expense.
3.Steelers will select the Mascot from the semi-finalists, which decision
will be at Steelers sole and absolute discretion.Steelers may, at its sole discretion
select an alternate/substitute Mascot, who will be subject to all the
requirements that the primary Mascot must comply with for the
job.
4.All
decisions made by Steelers are final and not subject to review or appeal.
So now you're probably wondering what
kind of person is eligible to be selected for this once in a lifetime
opportunity.Here are the
guidelines:
·All
applicants must be 21 years or older as of June 30,
2007.
·All
applicants must be United
States
citizens and be living in the United
States.
·All
applicants must be in good physical and excellent mental
health.
·All
applicants must meet the size requirements for the costume:Height - 5'6" to 6'2"; Chest - 54" max;
Waist - 38" max; Shoe Size - 12 mens max.
·All
applicants must authorize Steelers to conduct a variety of background
checks.
·All
semi-finalists may be required to undertake physical and psychological
examinations and testing (to be conducted in Pittsburgh by medical personnel selected by Steelers) and must
meet all physical and psychological requirements.
·A
semi-finalist may be required to complete an Interview Agreement Package (which
would be furnished by Steelers), that may include, without limitation, Medical
History, Background Questionnaire, and Release and Waiver
forms.
There may be additional qualifications set forth in the Interview
Agreement Package or the final Mascot Agreement.
The Steelers Mascot will be selected based upon having the following
traits:
·Courteous and
professional demeanor
·Outgoing
·Adventurous
·Physically
and mentally adept
·Adaptable to
various environments
The person selected as the Steelers
Mascot, and, if applicable, the person selected as the secondary Steelers
Mascot, will have to enter into an agreement with Steelers for the engagement,
which will contain, among other things, a zero tolerance condition as to alcohol
and substance abuse.
