Steelers Re-Sign Trai Essex
PITTSBURGH — The Steelers re-signed offensive lineman Trai Essex to a two-year deal, it was announced today. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
A valuable swingman along the offensive line with the ability to play both guard and tackle, Essex (6-4, 324) will enter his fifth NFL season after originally being selected by the Steelers in the third round (93rd overall) of the 2005 NFL Draft.
Essex has played in 33 career games, making four starts during the regular-season. He has appeared in two career postseason contests, including his first postseason start at left tackle in the 2008 Wild Card Game versus Jacksonville.
Essex joins guard Chris Kemoeatu, offensive tackle Max Starks and linebacker Andre Frazier as unrestricted free agents who have re-signed with the Steelers. All four players were members of the Steelers’ Super Bowl XL and XLIII championship teams.
